Smirnoff and Cyanide - Short Film
This project was done to fulfil a college brief. I worked within a team to produce, film, and edit this short film.
For this project, I worked as a producer, co-writer, lighting operator, camera operator, and editor. The aim was to create a narrative plot that included symbolism.
My responsibilities for this project were:
- To support my team and oversee the project from start to finish
- To co-write a script for a narrative-driven story
- To set up a shooting schedule along with call sheets and cast permissions
- To research the sensitive topics depicted to figure out the best way to show them
- To set up the lighting for every shot
- To set up the camera for some shots, which included working with the boom operator to ensure that they knew the boundaries of the camera
- To perform in the scenes
- To compile the shots and audio and organise them to match
- To edit the story together
Throughout this, I learned:
- How to set up equipment in a very small location
- How to juggle different roles at the same time
- How to cohesively write a script with the other team members
- How to ensure continuity between shots when filming with different people on different days
- How to problem-solve last-minute issues (arranging change of actor when one became ill on the last possible day of filming)
- How to look after borrowed equipment on public transport to get to and from the filming location
- How to coordinate with a larger team than I had previously experienced
